Curriculum

MINDLABS offers a unique integrated curriculum which is premised on the Cambridge International Examination (CIE). We supplement the core curriculum with other global standards including the Singapore curriculum, where is deemed fit. Key external assessments are conducted in Year 6 (6th Standard) Checkpoint examinations.

Our integrated curriculum encourages learner-centred and enquiry-based approaches to learning. It develops learners’ skills in creative thinking, enquiry and problem solving, giving learners excellent preparation for the next stage in their education.

stageThe Junior Academy’s academic programme begins with Year 1 (1st Standard) and concludes at the end of Year 6 (6th Standard).

Key Stage 1 (“KS1”)

Research informs us that during our earliest years, a large part of the pattern for our future adult life is set; we therefore acknowledge that positive experiences in the early years give children the best start in life. In KS1, we aim to build on the positive experience gained in the Early Years Stage to ensure continuity and a natural progression in learning as well as their personal development. In addition, children can participate daily in an extensive extra curricular programme and day trips, to ensure learning is not confined to the classroom.

Key Stage 2 (“KS2”)

As children become more experienced in the ways of our academy, they can start to flourish in the full range of activities MINDLABS has to offer. In KS2, we aim to build on the skills gained in the KS1 and encourage children to feel part of the MINDLABS community by taking opportunities to become more involved in academy life. In addition, children can participate daily in an extensive extra curricular programme and day trips, to ensure learning is not confined to the classroom.

Our students are taught based on the International curriculum focusing on their academic and self development excellence, we nurture and prepare students for the respective Checkpoint assessments and major international examinations.

National Curriculum of England & International General Certificate of Secondary Education (IGCSE)

MINDLABS is a registered institution and part of the UK Independent Schools offering the National Curriculum of England (NCT) for KS1 and KS2.

Under the NCT, students have the option to take the external examinations in Year 2. However, at MINDLABS we have made it compulsory for our student to take the KS2 examinations in Year 6. These are set by the UK Department of Education. The test papers are then sent back to the UK for marking and an official certificate will be provided on the grades.

We aspire to prepare students for the IGCSE programme after primary 6. IGCSE provides a broad study programme by drawing subjects from five areas: Languages, Humanities and Social Sciences, Sciences, Mathematics, Creative, Technical and Vocational. A balanced mix of practical experience and theoretical knowledge is structured within the curriculum. With a choice of ‘Core’ and ‘Extended’ papers in most subjects, IGCSE is suitable for students with differing levels of ability. IGCSE allows teaching and learning to be placed in a localised context.

CBSE-international (CBSE-i)

CBSE International (CBSE-i) is an internationally-benchmarked, enquiry and skill-based curriculum catering to individual learning styles. Launched by CBSE in 2010, CBSE-iis a pioneering approach by CBSE to deliver education with a global outlook to overseas Indian students.

cbseiCBSE-i provides opportunities for extended learning and helps develop perspectives, with emphasis on research orientation and social empowerment. It aims to promote critical and creative thinking skills, effective communication skills, interpersonal and collaborative skills and information and media skills.

Key subjects like English, Second Language, Science, Mathematics, and Social Science have a new learning approach. Social Science has a globalised approach, whilst incorporating locally relevant components depending on where the school is located, and Science has an added enrichment component.

While the syllabus is based on the guidelines of the National Curriculum Framework 2005 and the National Council for Educational Research and Training (NCERT), there is more flexibility in the courses that would focus on world geography and regional issues. The heart of the programme consists of core components like development of Perspectives, Research, Life Skills, and SEWA (Social Empowerment through Work and Action).
